This striking Art Deco secretaire–vanity cabinet from the 1930s represents the refined, multifunctional furniture design of interwar urban Europe. The piece was restored approximately ten years ago (not by us) and refinished in an elegant high-gloss piano lacquer, combining deep black with a rich purplish–raspberry tone. The finish is visually sophisticated and fully consistent with the original Art Deco aesthetic.
The cabinet retains its original mirrors, all set in metal frames and preserved in excellent condition, showing only a light, authentic patina appropriate to its age. Mirrors appear not only in the central section but also on the inner sides of the doors, clearly indicating its dual function as both secretaire and vanity—designed for writing, grooming, and personal use.
The piece is fitted with its original lock and key, while the knob handles are later replacements.
The interior is crafted from light-toned wood, likely birch or poplar (not beech or ash), offering a warm contrast to the lacquered exterior. The well-organized interior features shelves, small drawers, and a fold-down writing surface, emphasizing practicality without compromising elegance. Based on its construction, materials, and stylistic language, the cabinet is attributed to German manufacture and stands as a refined example of 1930s Art Deco design.
