Flawless hand inlay in the middle of the table.
The table can be expanded to 6 people, unfortunately the original additional table top is missing.
4 chairs and 2 armchairs are part of the set. The furniture is in perfect structural condition, suitable for everyday use. The original shellac is worn but has a beautiful patina, showing the 100 years of use.
We treated the pieces with beeswax, thus preserving the patina.
The removable sprung seat inserts of the Kozma Lajos chairs have been carefully restored. Each unit was refilled with new natural Afrik fiber and reupholstered in a luxurious Italian silk satin fabric — an original vintage textile from the late 1960s, sourced at auction. The result is a harmonious blend of historic structure and refined materiality, faithful to the period while offering renewed comfort and visual sophistication.
“Prof. Lajos Kozma, architect, industrial artist and graphic designer, art university teacher. Probably the gretaest hungarian designer ever: Josef Hoffman wanted him to join the Vienna Werksatte- workshop, but due to his individuality and peculiar way of seeing, he did not accept this, which is why he founded his own workshop in Budapest. In 1913, he became a teacher at the School of Industrial Design and founded the Budapesti Műhely, which aimed to reform the art of housing. His furniture designs became a concept in the 1920s under the name “Kozma-baroque”, he was awarded the Grand Gold Medal of Applied Arts for his furniture in 1925, but his style already pointed in the direction of art deco. Lajos Kozma’s furniture and interiors can be found in many museums around the world, in books, including the German edition of Innen-dekoration books.”
